Buying a hot tub is exciting, but it can also come with questions about what the price actually covers. One of the biggest frustrations buyers face is assuming everything is included, only to realize later that delivery, electrical work, or site prep are separate parts of the project.

At Great Bay Spa & Sauna, we want buyers to go in with clear expectations of your hot tub and its features. Here is what is typically included, what may cost extra, and what you should budget for from purchase through your first year of ownership.

What Is Typically Included In The Base Hot Tub Price?

In most cases, your hot tub purchase includes the essentials needed to get started.

The Hot Tub Itself

This includes the model you selected, along with its standard features, controls, and built-in components.

Standard Cover

Most hot tubs come with a standard cover designed to help retain heat and protect the water from debris.

Startup Chemical Kit

A starter set of water care products is often included so you can begin basic maintenance right away.

Owner Materials

You will also receive owner information and water care guidance to help you understand operation, maintenance, and routine upkeep.

What Usually Costs Extra?

There are several parts of a hot tub project that are often separate from the tub itself.

Delivery And Installation

Delivery costs vary based on your location, site access, and the difficulty of the placement.

Free delivery is available for installations within a 40-mile radius. Keep in mind that hot tub pricing does not include electrical work to bring power to the installation area, difficult-access conditions such as fence removal, decks, or rock walls, stair carries up or down, or the use of a crane, material handler, or forklift. Free delivery also assumes clear access to the location and either ground-level placement or an unobstructed raised platform under 24 inches high. A simple, accessible setup is very different from moving a spa through a tight yard or over a fence.

Electrical Work

Most hot tubs require a licensed electrician. Final cost depends on the distance from your breaker panel, whether additional wiring is needed, and if your panel requires upgrades.

Site Preparation

If you do not already have a suitable surface, you may need a concrete pad, pavers, or reinforced decking before delivery.

Steps And Accessories

Items like entry steps, cover lifters, upgraded covers, and convenience accessories may be purchased separately depending on your setup and preferences.

How Does Delivery Work At Great Bay?

Hot tub delivery is not a basic drop-off. It takes planning, equipment, and the right team.

  1. Site Assessment

Before delivery day, the site needs to be evaluated for access, surface condition, and placement requirements.

  1. Specialized Equipment

Great Bay uses specialized delivery equipment such as all-terrain forklifts and Spa Dollys to move hot tubs safely into place.

  1. Crane Access For Difficult Installations

Some properties require crane delivery due to fences, elevation changes, narrow access points, or backyard layout. These situations add cost, but they also make installations possible that otherwise would not be.

What Should You Budget For Beyond Installation?

Ownership costs do not stop after the hot tub is placed.

Monthly Water Care

Plan for ongoing chemical costs to keep water clean and balanced.

Annual Filter Replacement

Filters need regular cleaning and eventual replacement as part of normal ownership.

Cover Replacement Over Time

Most covers last several years, but they do eventually need to be replaced due to weather, wear, and moisture.

Optional Professional Service

Some owners choose professional water care or maintenance services for convenience and peace of mind.

How Should You Budget For The First Year?

The best approach is to think beyond the purchase price.

Your first-year budget should include:

  • The hot tub itself
  • Delivery and installation
  • Electrical work
  • Site prep if needed
  • Basic accessories
  • Water care supplies
  • Filter and maintenance costs

This gives you a much more realistic picture of total ownership and helps avoid frustration later.
